Biography
Mel Ijieh is an A&R Manager at 5K Records, under Sony Music UK. First entering the industry via a journalism route, writing for online publications such as Blacpire and Mixtape Madness – she quickly began to connect the dots between the music business and consumers. Following this, she began interning at Believe (under Kwame Kwaten) during her time at the University of Nottingham. After 3 internships at Believe, she started working for Ferocious Talent helping to look after acts such as Blue Lab Beats and Cassie Rytz, as well as solo managing her own neo-soul act, BINA. After 2 years at Ferocious, she then had a brief stint at publishing house – Metropolis Songs as an assistant, before moving to RCA for the Sony Music A&R academy in 2021.
Just 10 months into this role, she was scouted by 5K Records (co-founded by 2K’s Moe & Kilo and super producer Jae5) to join their A&R team as a junior, however has now been promoted to a manager role. Scoring the label their first top 2 UK record with Libianca – People, Mel is focused on bringing great talent to the world stage.
