Biography

Troy Taylor is a platinum-certified hitmaker, musician, vocal arranging genius, entrepreneur,
and renowned star maker whose influence has shaped the sound of R&B, pop, and gospel for
decades. With an unmatched ear for excellence, he has helped define multiple eras of music
while working with some of the most iconic legends of all time, including Aretha Franklin,
Whitney Houston, Ginuwine, Patti LaBelle, Brian McKnight, The Isley Brothers, SWV,
Brandy, Color Me Badd, and The Mighty O’Jays, among many others.

A multi–award-winning producer, Troy Taylor is the recipient of both Grammy and Dove
Awards, and he remains deeply committed to uplifting the next generation of talent through his
ventures Songbook Entertainment and TTU (Troy Taylor University). These platforms serve
as both incubators and launchpads for aspiring artists, equipping them with the creative and
business tools needed to thrive in today’s music industry.

Troy’s passion for music was evident from an early age. Rooted in jazz and gospel, he began
performing in local talent shows at just 14 years old, mastering the keyboard and training his
ear to deeply understand and feel music. He later graduated from the Hartford Conservatory
School in 1988 with a degree in jazz theory and record production.
Originally signed to Motown as a solo artist, Troy soon discovered his true calling was behind
the scenes—writing, producing, and mentoring. That pivotal shift led to his first major
placements,
“Little Things” and “Your Love,
” on Boyz II Men’s debut album
Cooleyhighharmony, which sold over 12 million copies worldwide. The group’s follow-up
album, II, sold over 20 million copies globally and earned Troy his first two Grammy
Awards.

Taylor also played a critical role in the development of Trey Songz, discovering him in Virginia
and cultivating his sound beginning in 2003. Under Troy’s guidance, Trey signed with Atlantic
Records and went on to release multiple Billboard-topping albums, including Ready, Passion,
Pain & Pleasure, and Chapter V.
His continued excellence in the modern era is exemplified by his most recent credits producing
“Angel Numbers,
” “Sex So Good,
” and “My Slime” for Chris Brown on the Grammy
Award–winning album 11:11—a powerful testament to Troy’s enduring influence on the
evolution of R&B and contemporary soundscapes.
Following this success, Troy’s recent collaborations include Giveon, Summer Walker, Tyla,
Teyana Taylor, Zara Larsson, 4Batz, Koryn Hawthorne (Gospel), and Charles Jenkins,
further cementing his relevance across genres and generations and reinforcing his position as a
trusted architect of modern sound.

At the core of Troy’s journey is his unwavering faith.
“God has allowed me to stand before
many and proclaim His name. He is the cause and the reason for my talent, gift, and
motivation—not the perception of people.
” This spiritual foundation has fueled a decades-long
commitment to creating timeless music while empowering others to discover and walk fully in
their purpose.

Troy Taylor’s legacy is one of excellence, mentorship, and innovation—a blueprint for
quality, longevity, and authentic impact in an ever-evolving global music industry.
